APSARA DANCE & DINNER SHOWS

As you explore the Temples of Angkor which draw visitors from all over the world, one of the images that is seen carved into the sandstone of the temples over and over are the Apsaras. These are the female musical angels who provided entertainment to the kings. The modern day Khmer culture embraces this wonderful part of our heritage and performances of Apsara dancers are found throughout Cambodia. Several restaurants and hotels in Siem Reap present nightly Apsara dance performances and you will see that Apsara Dinner Shows are included in many tours. Most shows include the four genres of traditional Khmer dance which are Apsara Dance, Masked Dance, Shadow Theatre, and Folk Dance.

THE ANGKOR NATIONAL MUSEUM

The Angkor National Museum in Siem Reap is a marvelous place to begin your adventure in Cambodia as it will provide very valuable information that allows our guests to understand not only what it is they will see at the Temples of Angkor, but also to gain understanding of the ancient Khmer culture as a whole.

This impressive interactive museum which opened in 2007 contains countless archeological treasures and cultural relics from the Angkorian and pre-Angkorian periods that came from the temples themselves and have been relocated to the museum for safekeeping. The tour of the eight galleries begins with a short orientation presentation. The galleries include the Room of 1,000 Buddha’s, the Pre-Angkor culture, Religion and Beliefs, The Great Khmer Kings, Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Story from Stones, and Ancient Costume. Tour guides and audio guides in various languages are available. The information that is gained here along with the ability of our knowledgeable tour guides  provide everything needed for our guests to embrace the Temples of Angkor!

THE CAMBODIA LANDMINE MUSEUM

The Cambodian Landmine Museum displays defused explosives and military hardware which were taken from the battlefields throughout Cambodia as a result of the political and military conflicts in the ‘60’s and ‘70’s.

Here you will understand the existing unexploded ordinance (UXO) problem in Cambodia as a result of the Khmer Rouge regime of the 70’s as well as the current demining efforts taking place throughout Cambodia. Started by a former Cambodian soldier and deminer, Akira, the Cambodia Landmine Museum is also a charitable organization which provides education about landmines and provides financial support for landmine affected youth. Equipment on display includes old tanks, artillery guns, rocket launchers, anti-aircraft guns, small arms, mines and bombs.

THE CAMBODIA CULTURAL VILLAGE

The Cambodian Cultural Village, first opened to public in late 2003 covers a total area of 52 acres. This theme park showcases the traditional Cambodian way of life, and the local customs and practices of the various ethnic groups in the country. It is home to more than 10 villages, displaying the different cultures and characteristics of 19 Cambodian races. The shows include Apsara dances, traditional wedding ceremonies, circus acts and will introduce you to our wonderful Asian elephants! You might even become a part of the show as members of the audience are chosen to participate in the entertainment!

THE SIEM REAP CROCODILE FARM

There is now only one commercial crocodile farm in Siem Reap open to the public and we’re happy to take you there! Here you can see over 1,000 South China crocodiles, ranging in age from 1 year to 50 years old. There is also a retail store selling leather handbags, wallets, belts, etc. made from crocodile, sting ray, and snake skin.

TONLE SAP LAKE - FLOATING VILLAGES

The massive lake in Cambodia known as Tonle Sap is the largest freshwater lake in all Southeast Asia. In the rainy season (June to October), the huge amount of water from the Himalaya mountains flowing into the Mekong river reaches the South China Sea and forces the river to reverse its flow when it meets the Mekong delta. Seeking the low point of Cambodia, the Mekong feeds into Tonle Sap causing it to swell to a huge size almost 5 times larger than what it is during the dry season. This increase in size floods the surrounding floodplain and forests, creating an incredibly diverse and rich eco-system.

Since Tonle Sap becomes one of the largest fishing grounds in the world each year, this source of food has given birth to the Floating Villages of Tonle Sap. We have tours of these unique villages that are accessible only by boat. This is a very unusual way of life which is very interesting to see and experience!

SIEM REAP SHOOTING RANGE

At the Siem Reap Shooting Range you’ll find numerous fully-automatic military weapons from World War II until present, including RPG's and grenade launchers that are available to operate. From AK-47’s and M-16’s to WWII Russian PPSH submachine guns, there are a wide variety of firearms here available to operate.

ARTISANS D‘ ANGKOR

Artisans Angkor is an amazing school dedicated to teaching the ancient Khmer arts to modern day children. A highly popular experience, our guests will see how children and young adults are being taught such skills as the silk production process beginning with the silkworms themselves all the way to weaving into rugs and creation of garments. From stonecutting and woodworking to silk painting and other Khmer skills, our guests are welcomed into the student workshops of Artisans Angkor to witness the skills of the Khmer ancestors being passed on to new generations. Each artistic piece you see being created is available to purchase in the students Retail Store as well as on the Artisans Angkor web site.

THE TEMPLES OF ANGKOR

The ancient Khmer empire covered all of what is now known as Southeast Asia. The capital was relocated several times but found a home in Siem Reap at the site we now call Angkor. Although ancient Khmer temples can be found throughout Southeast Asia, it’s because of the abundant food source provided by the great Tonle Sap lake that the ancient Khmer capital was built here. Angkor is very close to the shores of Tonle Sap, is and the reason why the abundance of ancient temples are found within the Angkor Archeological Park which greets millions of visitors each year.

The jewel of Angkor is the massive Angkor Wat temple which is the largest religious structure ever built by mankind. Within the Angkor Archeological Park not only will you explore Angkor Wat, but there are hundreds of other sandstone temples within this heavily archeological site of 300 square kilometers of jungle that will take your breath away. This is truly a place where Angkor and Asia Adventures encourage our guests to get in touch with their inner “Indiana Jones”.

Please refer to our Photo Gallery to see our photos of some of the most popular Temples of Angkor!

A 20min ride costs $15. In the evening, the elephants move to Phnom Bakheng and are ready to take passengers up the hill at $20 for a view of the sunset and for a ride down at $15.
